Hey Rukket Nation! Henry Fall from the Milo Lines Golf Academy here. If you're struggling with chunking your chip shots or hitting behind the golf ball, you’re not alone. It’s a common problem that can turn a promising round into a frustrating experience. Today, I'm going to share an easy fix to help you eliminate this issue using the Haack Pro Golf Net from Rukket Sports.
Understanding the Problem
Chunking chip shots, or hitting behind the golf ball, is one of the most frequent faults we see around the green. It can lead to duffed shots or even bladed shots when you drop kick the ball off tight turf. Neither outcome is fun, but there’s a straightforward solution.
Common Setup Faults
- Fault #1 Handle Too Far Forward: Setting up with the handle too far forward creates excessive shaft lean, which shortens the club and causes it to drive into the ground too early. It can also lead to awkward bends in your posture.
- Fault #2 Pressure on the Right Foot: Tilting your upper body back places too much pressure on your right foot, which adds excessive bend in your spine, causing the low point of your swing to drop behind the ball.
The Fix: Simple Adjustments
For setup adjustments, align your club into the neutral shaft position with your left arm, this helps to avoid excessive shaft lean. If you are feeling pressure on the left side, distribute your weight so that you feel more pressure on your left foot. Feel as if your right shoulder is slightly above your left shoulder.
For swing adjustments, as you swing, keep the pressure on your left side or even increase it slightly, allow your head to move a bit left to achieve a descending blow and move the low point forward. Maintain an upright posture throughout the swing. Drop the club down and through the ball, ensuring you stay left to achieve that crisp contact. You can even walk through the shot to reinforce staying left and moving the low point forward.
Chunking your chip shots is often a result of improper setup or hanging back during the swing. By making these simple adjustments—neutralizing your shaft position, maintaining pressure on your left side, and staying tall—you can achieve the crisp contact you desire.
Incorporate these tips into your practice routine with the Haack Pro Golf Net, and you’ll see improvement to your short game in no time. Happy golfing, Rukket Nation!
